I love the moments surrounding a kiss. There’s a romanticism floating in the air that captures all of the feel without the need for the literal action. There’s such a sense of ease here, created by the the lift of the bride’s arm, the tilt of the head and the relaxed smile. The framing is just right. Not so tight as to lose the atmosphere and not so lose as to lose the couple. At an emotional level, this image has complete clarity, and it captures a true old world grace that is both charming and believable. Without doubt, when you see the couple, you know they are connected.… Read more...

If things go wrong, let people know what’s going on

Ever find yourself behind on something? Maybe you dropped the ball? Don’t sweat it. It happens. But the question isn’t whether you make a mistake. It’s how you handle it afterward. A picture like this is such a great reminder for the power of the basics. It’s not whimsical and clever. It’s not showy and stylized. It’s pure timing and composition. It’s nailing things in the middle of an action, freezing time to let us see what is just barely beyond the grasp of our vision, but squarely focused on what our minds want to retrieve. The wind and the hair, the arm lifted just right, and the other flower girl in the background make it all come together.… Read more...
