I keep looking at this one. It’s a real Polaroid. Not the iPhone manufactured stuff. Not that there’s anything wrong with that (or is there? I’m starting to feel a little over-Hipstamatic-ed). The picture is creepy. And maybe there’s just a hair too much space to the right. I’m not really sure if I think there is. I go back and forth. The clock seems a little squished. Maybe the framing just keeps it loose. Or maybe it’s supposed to make me uncomfortable.
But I don’t really care. I think that’s is what art does. It makes you think. It challenges you. It asks you to consider it, and you’re rewarded for having taken the time to do so, because you get to connect with another person’s vision. And there’s definitely a vision here. The elements are great. The portrait over her head, the old wooden clock. Even the wooden smile – you’re not supposed to have smiles in this type of picture – but I think it just adds to the effect here. I have to confess, when I first saw it, I wasn’t even sure that the woman was real. She felt like a smiling mannequin. I think that’s awesome. And how many people out there are really bold enough to put something like this up? Something you know will never show up on Style Me Pretty (I’m assuming, of course, that it hasn’t – maybe it has, and I just didn’t see it). Something that isn’t editorial or glamorous or tear-jerking. Something that the average bride just wouldn’t get. And that’s just what Aaron has done. That’s something I admire.
