Sometimes, you see one of those structural shots – you know the ones – the type with the small bride and groom, all that wonderful light and form – but there’s just that little something lacking. It’s got show, but not enough go. Not here, though. This was taken right before the bride was about to walk down the aisle, and Brian has done a beautiful job with the symmetry and balance. Enough to bring it well beyond the ordinary. But what really differentiates it is the combination of that ethereal, white light, and the bride’s very human glance downward as her feet peek out from under the dress. The image … Read more...

Who doesn’t like Adele?

You don’t hear those words, do you? “I hate Adele.” “Wow, Adele’s voice sucks.” “She just can’t sing.”

Of course, there must be someone who doesn’t like her. There’s always someone who doesn’t like someone. That’s how the world is. But 21, her most recent release, has legs. What a reminder of the power we all have. It’s not your typical hit machine. It keeps going and going. It’s no wonder. Not just because it’s good – it is – but because she’s real, and that means something. Now, more than ever. I liked 21 – some of it a whole lot, but overall, not quite as much as I wanted to. I’m about half way through, so I reserve judgment, but as it stands, it’s been a little more light weight than I had hoped. It harkens back to the sales books of the 90’s, where it was all about the how and less the why. With that said, it makes some valuable points.

The basic premise is that businesses need to make an irresistible offer – a deep touchstone … Read more...

When Apple sucked

I’ve been using Macs forever – since the very first one, back in 1984, and I’ve long been a fan. Now, I’ve done my fair share of bouncing back and forth in my life, so I know what PCs are about, but at heart, it was always Macs that I loved. But it wasn’t always that way. Set the time machine way back, and you’ll find me as a young boy thinking “What the hell type of name is that?” After all, that was the age of IBM – International Business Machines. Companies with serious names. Real names. And here was…Apple? Apple?!?

But if there’s one truth I’ve learned about business, it is this. You define what good is. Good … Read more...

Picture of the day: Sean Flanigan

This is really what modern life is. A blow by blow play captured via phone or point and shoot. Along with a great expression from the older man on the right, the texture from the glass imparts a wonderful sense of atmosphere. Sean creates a perfect combination here, fusing together the literal and the figurative – the almost pedestrian act of taking a self-portrait paired with the dream-like abstraction of the image itself.… Read more...
